T-70 Senjogahara Trekking (Oku-Nikko)

T-70 Senjogahara Trekking – Oku-Nikko

Ryuzu Waterfalls
One of Nikko’s great waterfalls, Ryuzu Falls consists of two cascades dropping over 210 meters. It is especially beautiful when the rhododendrons are in bloom (May to June), and when the leaves of the surrounding maple and linden trees burst into full autumn colors (September to October). There is an observation deck right by the falls.

Lake Yunoko
Three kilometers in circumference, Lake Yunoko was formed when an eruption of Mt. Mitsudake dammed the Yugawa River. A one-hour walking course around the lake allows visitors to enjoy a primeval forest of broadleaf and coniferous trees, wild birds and seasonal flora. The peak season for colorful autumn foliage is from the end of September to the middle of October. Lake Yunoko is part of Okunikko Shitsugen, a registered Ramsar site.

Yudaki Waterfalls
Located on the southern edge of Lake Yunoko, Yudaki Falls has an elevation of 70 meters and a length of 110 meters. An observatory platform near the basin allows close-up views of the breathtaking waterfall.

Senjogahara Plateau
Located at a height of 1,400 meters in Nikko National Park, Senjogahara is one of the largest highland marshes on Honshu. Originally a lake formed by an eruption of Mt. Nantai, Senjogahara evolved into 400 hectares of marsh over time. More than 350 species of native plants and wild birds inhabit the area, and 175 hectares of the marshland is part of Okunikko Shitsugen, a registered Ramsar site. A nature trail offers easy hiking through the marsh. A particularly beautiful time to visit is the middle of June to the beginning of August when cottonsedge and meadowsweet are in full bloom, as well as the end of September to the beginning of October when the marsh grasses turn red.

Let’s enjoy the beautiful scenery of the four seasons woven by nature!
