Y-33 Visit Wineries, Fruits orchard in Katsunuma!

Japanese wine history began in Koshu city (Katsunuma).
Two young men from Katsunuka town went to France in 1877 to learn the art of wine brewage. After returning home, they greatly contributed to the development of Japan’s wine brewing.
Wine made from Koshu – bred grapes: More than 50% of Koshu – bred wine is getting attention from all over the world, the wine is especially suit to Japanese cuisine as Sushi or Tempura.
Also this area is very famous about one of strongest warriors in Sengoku period, his name is Shingen Takeda. There are so many places related to him in this city.
This time, we introduce one of his place, Erin-ji temple, it’s landscape garden is designated as one of the country’s scenic beauties.
You can enjoy both tasting local wine and fresh fruits, and feeling historical atmosphere at the same time!!

10:00 Meet at JR Enzan station, then guide takes you by chartered taxi to Erinji-temple. 

Erinji-temple is known as Shingen’s family temple, and its landscape garden designed by Kokushi Muso is designated as one of the country’s scenic beauties.
Takeda Shingen (武田 信玄), of Kai Province, was a pre-eminent daimyo in feudal Japan with exceptional military prestige in the late stage of the Sengoku period. He was called as “Tiger of Kai (province)”, and the other warriors felt threat to him.
“風林火山” Furinkazan is a famous important Shingen’s strategy based on “The Art of War” (military text by Sun Tzu), that means “Swift as the wind. Silent as the forest. Fierce as fire. Immovable as the mountain”.

11:30 Visit Chateau Katsunuma, tour vineyard, process of preparation of wine, and tasting. then lunch time, enjoy authentic French cuisine with wine.

The oldest winery in Katsunuma;
Katsunuma town is located on the east side of the Kofu Basin, and their climate which changes heat and cold is greatly suitable for the cultivation of the grape. This area has the oldest history of the viticulture in Japan.
Chateau Katsunuma has more than 130 years history since dealt with the making of wine learned in France. The owners from the beginning have kept the policy, that all of process must be coherent handicraft from the cultivation of the grape to the brewing, selling, that mean not leaving to the others, but do everything by themselves.

14:00 Visit two or three local wineries and tasting.

16:00 Visit fruit orchard and enjoy trying out sample fruit and shopping.

In Yamanashi, there are cherry, peach, pear, persimmon and strawberry in all year around. You can enjoy fresh fruit there.

17:30 Return to Katsunuma Budo-kyo station, then finish the tour.
